Day of Defeat: Source

Of all the competitive muliplayer games Valve has released on Source this one is my personal favorite.

Like TF2 it's a class based team shooter with territory control based objectives. But with a more satisfying core shooting mechanics, eg not having to shoot an enemy 6 times point blank to the head, and without no long periods of waiting ala CS:S.

Classes are effective based on location and situation they are in, making using the environment and controlling the situation keys to success. Teamplay is encouraged for accomplishing objectives and maintaing frontlines, not shoved down your throat ala TF2 where the wildly large differences in classes specialties means you cannot handle certain situations as your current class.

The core maps are fun, but where this game really shines is in the large selection of custom maps that keep the experience fresh and challenging. To my experience the commnity that play this game are usually friendly, laid back, and great fun. - Except realism.

TL;DR : A personal favorite, class based shooter that is more realistic than TF2.
